I first qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist in 1993, gaining an Advanced Certificate in Counselling from Manchester University. Since then I have undertaken an extensive range of post graduate study, now holding the following qualifications:
- Advanced Cert. Counselling (Manchester University)
- Post Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Advanced Clinical Training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy
- Advanced Clinical Training in EMDR
- Diploma in Hypno-Psychotherapy
- Diploma in Supervision
- Cert. Ed (Adult Education)
- Complimentary Therapies
- Indian Head Massage
- Reiki Master Level I and II
For most of my working career I have worked in multidisciplinary teams in the statutory, educational and voluntary sector. I have worked as an alcohol counsellor with individuals and families as well as specialising in working with children and young people. I have experience of working in partnership with the police, prison service, social services and youth services as well as children’s charities as a consultant. I have also worked as a counsellor at Edge Hill University, supporting students through any emotional issues that may cause stress whilst engaging in their studies. For the last eleven years I have worked in Adult Mental Health Services in a primary care setting for the NHS. I have experience of working with people with moderate to severe mental health issues.
In my work I use a wide variety of different counselling and psychotherapy techniques, but I prefer not baffle my clients with jargon. At the end of the day, I find that clients aren’t really bothered whether I use therapy A or technique B, they just want to know that I can help them. And I can.
As well as working in the NHS I also have a successful private practice, working in South Manchester, Bolton and Wigan. Clients are referred to me in many ways; self referrals, GPs Occupational Health Departments, Personal Injury Lawyers, Statutory Services, Voluntary Sector and other therapists.
I really enjoy my work; helping people to deal with their problems and face life with a positive outlook is very rewarding indeed. And I can help you. You might think your problem is trivial, or you might think it so great that no-one can help, but this is not the case. Just give me a call for an informal chat and a no-obligation discussion about how I can help.
